It is our great pleasure to invite you to the Liberal Summer Camp: Climate Change Camp, in Arendal, Norway 25th – 30th July. It will be organised parallel to Norges Unge Venstre’s (NUV) annual summer camp in the idyllic Scandinavian surroundings of Arendal. The summer camp is organised jointly by LYMEC and NUV, and with the great contribution from the Youth in Action Programme.

Sommerleir hove gårdThis project intends to unite European youth to reflect over common political issues facing the youth in the future, in order to enable them to become active citizens. Issues of climate change will be discussed, applying Structured Dialogue with decision makers. Additionally, other relevant experts will also be invited to give further input on the matter at hand, and the participants will have the opportunity to engage in discussions and workshops where they will share their experiences and communicate best practises. The topic is reflecting, in particular, the “Awareness-raising to global challenges (such as sustainable development and climate change)” which is an annual priority of the Youth in Action Programme. This issue is often described as a concern for the coming generation; it is thus an essential topic in which youth should actively participate. The upcoming Copenhagen Climate Change Conference makes this significant challenge even more pertinent to discuss.

These political and educational activities will take place in the idyllic surroundings of Hove Camp, in Arendal, Norway, from 25th to 30th July. To create a common basis and understanding, furthermore creating the atmosphere for fruitful discussions, the environmental and social aspects will also take a significant part in evolving this. Active team building events to secure intercultural learning and understanding will be organised to integrate the participants from all over Europe. Moreover, by discussing common challenges the participants will develop a feeling of unity, allowing further transnational cooperation in the future.

For those organisations that have signed the partnership agreement for the summer camp (LUF, RU, SU, KOL, LHG, JD, JOVD, FEL, LY, NG, ML Slovakia, MLD Slovenia, TNL, LSC, YMRF), there is 70 % travel refund and 120 EURO participant fee. For other MOs there is no travel refund and the participant fee is 150 EURO. Nominations must be submitted to office@lymec.eu by Thurrsday 9th July.

We are looking forward to seeing you at the LYMEC Summer School 2009!
